2020 Humble Beginnings Luncheon Postponed

A Letter from the Humble Beginnings Luncheon Co-Chairs

Many of you have surely received the email sent by Daniel Roby, CEO at Austin Street last Friday. In this note, Daniel highlighted all that Austin Street is doing to ensure the health and safety of their clients, their staff and the wider community. In a period of social distancing, Daniel has had to suspend all group events and individual volunteer activities.

With this in mind, we’ve been honored and sincerely humbled to serve as Co-Chairs of the 2020 Humble Beginnings Luncheon, while working together to share Austin Street’s important mission in providing shelter and hope for the homeless throughout our community. Our original plan was to be reaching out to each of you in a series of emails with messages of excitement and enthusiasm about the Luncheon and hoping to reinforce messaging around the critical work of Austin Street. However, we won’t be able to share that message on April 29, as we have made the difficult but necessary decision to postpone the Humble Beginnings Luncheon, until the fall.

Those of us with family, with access to medical care, with employment and a roof over our heads will likely be able to manage through this difficult period. However, the Federal Reserve reports 4 in 10 Americans are unable to afford a $400 emergency. Unfortunately, many in our community are just one paycheck away from financial distress. Shelter is a most basic need, food is essential and social services provides the stability needed around these situations.

In this season of social distancing, showing up for people will look and feel differently from what we are accustomed. With this, we are asking you to remember Austin Street with your emotional and financial support. Please know that with confidence, your gift of any size, will be utilized in the most effective way. Join us in making your commitment today!

Our prayers go out to those affected by this virus, as well as the caregivers and professionals who are working tirelessly on the front lines of this crisis. Thank you for your partnership and support during these unprecedented times.
