We are thrilled to announce that our Executive Director Daniel Roby has been selected by the Dallas Business Journal as a member of the 2018 class of 40 Under 40 !
The Dallas Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Awards celebrate the up-and-comers and people that North Texas community should know—they’re the future executives and influencers to watch in the Dallas-Fort Worth business community and beyond.
These individuals are decision makers and leaders in their organizations and have been able to excel at their workplace or in their field at a remarkably fast pace. The Dallas Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 will set the tone for what is to come in North Texas.
Daniel embodies Austin Street’s core values: kindness, trustworthiness, empowerment, and determination. These values drive Daniel to seek out new and innovative ways to tackle the challenges faced by Dallas’ growing homeless population. Under Daniel’s leadership, ASC has doubled the number of case managers, initiated Diversion and Aftercare programs, and embraced the “Housing First” model of shelter management. ASC’s new capital campaign will focus on growing Austin Street’s services, facilities, and revenue to better serve the city’s homeless population. A new dining room, full-scale kitchen, and increased shower and restroom facilities are planned to better meet those needs.
Daniel was appointed by Mayor Rawlings to participate in the City of Dallas’ Commission on Homelessness. Daniel is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance and chair of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) committee.
Daniel’s selection as an honoree for the 2018 40 Under 40 is one of several recognitions and accomplishments for this past year. As a member of the Leadership Dallas 2017class, Daniel’s proposal for The New Hope Garden was selected as the class project, adding a beautiful and bountiful space to the ASC campus, and in November, Daniel was named Non-profit CEO of the Year by CNM (the Center for Non-profit Management).

The Third Annual No Place Like Home is Thursday, February 22! Held this year at TreeHouse, it’s an amazing party with food, drink, and Friends! Come bid to win stays in vacation properties and resort hotels, and new this year, home services and décor.
The idea behind No Place Like Home is simple—we auction off amazing vacation packages, exclusive experiences, and the goods and services that make a house a home—in order to support the programs and mission of Austin Street to help end the homeless experience for more than 200 individuals this year.
Beyond the auction, No Place Like Home is a really fun party! With food from Nick and Sam’s John Kleifgen, beer, wine, cocktails, and great conversations with friends new and old, it’s the perfect way to spend an evening while giving back to those in need.

Winter, even in Texas, is a hard time to be homeless. Perhaps more difficult in Dallas where we can have temperatures in the 70s one day followed by a hard freeze the next. Cold weather is brutal—even life threatening—for those we serve. Austin Street works hard to ensure safety and warmth for all who seek shelter with us during the winter months.
One of the ways Austin Street does this is to encourage our guests to stay in on days when the temperature is not expected to rise above 40 degrees. Another way is by making sure everyone has appropriate outerwear, which is only possible thanks to generous donations we receive year-round.
Since we are primarily an emergency, overnight shelter for the most vulnerable homeless, all of our beds are occupied year round. Because of this, we are especially grateful to community partners like Oak Lawn United Methodist Church and OurCalling, who have opened their doors as overnight shelters during the recent bitter cold nights.
None of this is possible without support from our incredible community.
How can you help?
- Please make a donation online here: www.austinstreet.org/give. Our costs to keep our guests warm go up during the winter, especially on stay-in days. Your support helps us ensure a secure and safe environment.
- Give sandwiches, hard-boiled eggs, or large cans of chili to help us supplement meals and lunches. Because we can’t predict very far in advance which days will be stay-in days, our regular meal providers often need additional food to make sure everyone receives a meal. You can find more information about food donations here.
- Consider signing up to provide a weekday lunch with your office, church, community group or family and friends. Lunches are prepared off-site, delivered and served by volunteer groups. It’s a great way to give back in a really tangible way, and is one of our greatest needs!
