Operations Associate

Founded in 1983, Austin Street Center provides emergency shelter and meets the basic need of the most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in Dallas.

The Operations Associate works in a various of supporting roles and has the opportunity to work in different divisions within the operations of Austin Street Center.  This will include, but not limited to clothing & donations, food services and day to day operations of Austin Street Center.   The Operations Associate flexibility and reliability are essential skills to the position.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the donation/clothing room with sort and determine if the clothing is appropriate
    • Complete the tracking and count of all incoming donations
    • Store donations depending on gender, size, and season in an organized manner
    • Responsible for the upkeep and organization of the donations
  • Communicates with Staff and Clients to ensure that any items in “most need” are identify and shared with the Supervisors/Director of Operations
  • Assist clients by filling out clothing slips and ensuring that all inquiries are responded
  • Monitor the client laundry process
  • Provides supervision and direction to all assigned volunteer group
  • Oversee and assist with kitchen / food service preparation and storage
    • Ensure all food is properly stored and rotated to reduce loss/spoiling
    • Coordinate meal services when no volunteers are present
    • Responsible for kitchen environment including daily cleaning, sanitizing, and appropriate clean up after meal services
  • Assistant with set up and serving of meals provided by meal donors (community) volunteers
  • Monitor and provide guidance at meal service to client and meal donors (community) volunteers
  • Assist with day to day operations of Austin Street Center as needed or assigned

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience with homeless setting preferred
  • Capable of working independently
  • Ability to problem solve and de-escalation difficult situations
  • Flexibility to remain positive, provide motivation and be kind toward a demanding clientele
  • Strong communication (oral and written)
  • Possess high level of integrity & be a strong team player
  • Ability to lift 25-40 lbs on a daily basis
  • Ability to lift over 40 lbs as needed
  • Ability to bend, lift and carry heavy items over 40 lbs
