Each
month we have many clients who reconnect with their families
and/or reintegrate into the community.
They accomplish thisafter
participating in our drug treatment programs, psychological counseling,
job training programs and/or pastoral counseling sessions.
Some of these successes include:
HERB, a former client of Austin Street Centre,
now lives in Miami, Ohio, but whenever he comes
back to Dallas he always stops by for a visit
and to hug Rev. Bubba. Herb participated in many
of our programs here, and successfully reconnected
with his family.
BOBBI lived at the Centre for two years after losing her
job and home following open heart surgery. She originally came
to Dallas to escape an abusive relationship, far from her home
state of Washington.
Bobbi
went through our Resident’s Program,
which includes job training and psychosocial counseling.
After graduating,
she found a job, got married and now lives in an apartment
(building shown) in Irving. Bobbi was one of the clients
featured on our 20th Anniversary Calendar.
AVIS came
to the Centre with emotional problems. She lived here for
five years. The staff worked very closely with
her to build up trust. She eventually agreed to be seen by
our visiting psychiatrists for her mental health condition.
After doctors treated her in group and individual therapy
sessions, she stabilized. She eventually got an apartment
and reconnected with her family in Kansas City. She recently
moved
back there, where she continues to receive medical attention,
and where she has been reunited with her daughter, Angie.
CURTIS was
originally from Arkansas. He came to Dallas two years ago
and lived with us here at the Centre. He could
neither read nor write.
We urged him to participate in our literacy classes but he
always found new ways to avoid that program! He did agree to
participate in our substance abuse program.
After many many months, Curtis was stabilized and was reconnected
with his family. Curtis moved back to Arkansas and is now working
as a brick layer.
DIANE lived
here for two years working in the administrative office and
singing in our Chapel choir. She was so well qualified
that once she became chemically clean, she obtained a job in
the community right away and is now in her own apartment.
