On Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, 175 runners and walkers headed
to White Rock Lake for the Run for Shelter, benefiting the
Austin Street Centre.
Many who were not inclined to lace 'em up and join the race
made a registration donation. In fact, more than 300 people
registered for the event, with each race entry generating
enough revenue to house, feed, shower and give clothing
to a person for two nights.
It was further proof that you can run, but you can't hide
from homelessness.
Top finishers received awards, all participants got a t-shirt,
and more than $11,000 was raised for Austin Street Centre.
