On March 9, 2007, more than 600 Mavericks fans and friends of Austin Street were on hand to see Head Coach Avery Johnson receive the 2007 Pat Summerall Humble Beginnings Award .

In addition to Johnson and Summerall, others attending the event included KTCK radio personality Norm Hitzges, former Dallas Cowboys Michael Irvin and Mel Renfrow, Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez; Dallas City Councilman Gary Griffith.

The Dallas Mavericks Coaching Staff and admin team were also at the event, which raised more than $100,000 for Austin Street Centre's operating fund.

The Pat Summerall Humble Beginnings Awards Luncheon is held each year to honor a member of the sports community who has risen from a tough start, has overcome obstacles, and is now an inspiration to others.
